Preparing Your Graduate CV

If you're looking to secure your first job in the world of finance and banking, you may well be feeling a little overwhelmed. This enormous industry, so recently crippled, makes for a difficult and stressful working environment, and gaining a good first position can be tricky.

However, if you follow a few simple guidelines, you'll find that the process of securing a job in finance is easily streamlined. To begin with, you need to put together an impressive and professional CV.

This should be no more than two pages long and, if you are a graduate, should detail your academic achievements and should also include information about any relevant work experience you have done. Even if you worked through college selling car insurance, you should include this – it shows commitment and dedication that any company will value.

As a graduate, your CV should also, crucially, include a personal profile. This consists of a few simple points about yourself and your attributes listed at the top of the first page. In this paragraph, you should try to draw attention to the skills that are most relevant to the position for which you are applying.

Take care not to elaborate in too much detail in your personal profile, however, because you should also write a covering letter of about one page. This document should detail your motivation behind applying to a certain company and should also explain why you are suitable for the position at hand.
